Mitch Weiss

Mitch Weiss (MSJ82) worked for the Associated Press after graduating from the master’s program at Medill in 1982. He was a reporter based in Columbus and Toledo, Ohio for 12 years with AP before transferring to The Blade, a Toledo-based newspaper. At The Blade, Weiss worked as state editor and projects reporter.

While he was at The Blade, Weiss won the 2004 Pulitzer Prize for investigative reporting with fellow reporter Michael Sallah. The pair wrote about atrocities that a U.S. Army Platoon, Tiger Force, carried out during the Vietnam War.

After winning the Pulitzer, Weiss left Ohio in 2005 and took the job of deputy business editor of the Charlotte Observer. In 2008, he became a correspondent for the Charlotte bureau of the Associated Press.
