Welcome to the Alumni Listservs

One of the best ways to stay connected to the Medill alumni community is through our alumni listservs. Listservs operate as electronic mailing lists – anyone who subscribes to a listserv can send and receive messages from other subscribers. You must be subscribed to a listserv in order to post messages to it. It's a great way to have insightful media discussions, learn about or offer job opportunities (including "Hot Jobs" from the Medill Career Services) and get advice from fellow graduates, among other topics. 

 
Subscribing 

Subscribing to the listservs is an automated system hosted by Northwestern University Information Technology. Subscriptions are maintained automatically via email.
In order to successfully subscribe to a list, make sure you are not using e-mail signatures, the message is in plain text, your commands are in English, and you send your commands to listserv@listserv.it.northwestern.edu. The subscribe protocol is extremely literal, so if you put spaces in the listnames you will get an error message. To subscribe:

   1. Send a plain text e-mail to listserv@listserv.it.northwestern.edu without any subject line.
   2. Type the following command in the message:

      SUBSCRIBE listname Firstname Lastname -- (insert the name(s) of lists you want to subscribe to where you see listname)

Sending Messages 

 
Alums use listservs to send and receive information about job leads, source information, apartment listings and event announcements, among other topics. As with any other communication, we ask that you use discretion. (Is this of interest to a wide audience?)  

 

With a few common sense exceptions, Medill does not want to take a role in censoring the listserv. Medill has made an alumni listserv available for the convenience and enjoyment of its alums; we see it as an open community. Bear in mind that Medill has a diverse pool of graduates, who have chosen to enter all types of professions. Please be aware that we do monitor the listserv on a daily basis and do not allow patently offensive, pornographic or illegal postings to the listserv. Alumni who post such material will be taken off the listserv immediately.  

 

Use the following addresses to post a message to the listservs (you can only post messages if you are a subscriber and you must send it from the e-mail address you used to subscribe):

Please note you will need to send a request for each listserv you would like to be removed from (MEDILLCHI, MEDILLEUROPE, MEDILLIMC, MEDILLNE, MEDILLNY, MEDILLSF, MEDILLSOCAL and MEDILLDC) and you must send it from the e-mail address you used to subscribe.  

Requesting Daily Digests 
   
All messages posted to this list are also available in daily digests. If you wish to receive messages in digest format you may send the following request to listserv@listserv.it.northwestern.edu:  
 
Subject: (leave blank)
Body: set MEDILLALUMS mail digest  

Please note you will need to send a separate request for each listserv (MEDILLCHI, MEDILLEUROPE, MEDILLIMC, MEDILLNE, MEDILLNY, MEDILLSF, MEDILLSOCAL and MEDILLDC) and you must send it from the e-mail address you used to subscribe.
