Lyndsey McKay

Lyndsey McKay (IMC15) studied Integrated Marketing Communications online and is the marketing and communications manager at KMR Group, Inc. in Chicago.

She credits the IMC Online program for giving her a genuine understanding of consumer centricity.

“Before I was unaware of the power of behavioral data, or the concepts of unarticulated consumer needs that can be the stimulus of some amazing marketing and organizational initiatives,” she said. “I am thankful and inspired by the capabilities of us as marketers and strategists to improve our organizations using consumer centric principles.”

McKay said she never before considered enrolling in an online masters’ program, but learned it helped her be at the forefront of the digital marketplace.

I never considered that enrolling in an online master’s program as a marketer would actually help me be at the forefront of the digital marketplace," she said. "Not only are we learning about how digital has transformed businesses and operations, but we are a part of the digital transformation through our choice in Medill’s online IMC program. The leadership and technologies Northwestern has used to offer our prestigious IMC program online demonstrate the steps necessary for organizations to lead and innovate.”

We recently spoke with Lyndsey McKay about her experience in the IMC Online program. Here is a brief recap of our interview.

What has been the biggest surprise of the program?

I never considered that enrolling in an online master’s program as a marketer would actually help me be at the forefront of the digital marketplace.  Not only are we learning about how digital has transformed businesses and operations, but we are a part of the digital transformation through our choice in Medill’s online IMC program.  The leadership and technologies Northwestern has used to offer our prestigious IMC program online demonstrate the steps necessary for organizations to lead and innovate.

What has been the most valuable class you’ve taken?

Choosing just one valuable class is difficult, but I must say that the concepts of integrative thinking taught in Managing Integration have been very valuable.

What are your hobbies outside of the classroom?

I have been running less than two years but I love it!  I ran my first marathon on my birthday (beginning my second week in the IMC program) in Brighton, UK.   Then I ran the Chicago Marathon in the fall of 2014 (and since then have completed the New York City Marathon) and ran my first ultramarathon this March.  I’ve run many smaller races in between.  I was heavily involved in music growing up and very far removed from athletics.  Becoming addicted to running is such a joy and a surprise!

What’s been the most valuable insight from the IMC Online program?

A genuine understanding of consumer-centricity is the most valuable insight that I have gained from the IMC Online program.
