Welcome to Medill Career Services (MCS)! We look forward to providing guidance in your efforts to further your career. Please read the information below to see how we might best assist you.
Accessing our services:
MCS services are available to all students of Medill’s degree programs. Career Advisors coach students by phone, email or in person at our offices on campus. We are also available to you by phone or email when you’re away from the Evanston campus, for instance, studying abroad, on your Journalism residency, etc.
Our advising and programming process covers a variety of career management issues, including job search strategies, resume and cover letter review and interview preparation.
If you would like an individual career advising session, please see our instructions on how to request an appointment through MEDILLINK, our career management system. If you still have questions call MCS at 847-491-2049 and our Program Assistant will help you with the process.
Services we provide:
Medill & School of Communication Career and Internship Fair – MCS & the SoC EPICS Office coordinate an annual Career & Internship Fair for communications, journalism, marketing, and new media employers who are looking for summer interns, as well as full time employees. Visit the Career & Internship Fair information page to learn more and to register to attend.
MEDILLINK Database – We welcome you to our career management system, created exclusively for Medill students and alumni. Our database allows you to:
• Upload multiple cover letters, resumes, clips, and other documents
• Apply directly to Medill-specific jobs posted in the system
• Search for Medill-specific jobs, internships, and fellowships in one place
• Save settings for job searches to be used again at the click of a button
• Set automatic notifications to announce when new postings are in the system
• Request and view appointments with Medill Career Services staff, RSVP to upcoming events, and register for workshops

Individual career advising – Our advising covers search strategy, offer negotiation strategy, self-assessment support, resume and cover letter review and other issues related to your career.
Career-related workshops – Session topics include resume development and cover letter writing, interview preparation, search strategies, internships, and many others.
Career resource library - Hard copy reference materials, computer workstations, scanner, fax and copier are available to you in Fisk Hall room 106.
Recruiting updates - Emails are sent to current student listservs highlighting career information, scheduled employer visits and job leads.
On-Campus Recruiting - MCS coordinates Journalism fall/winter on-campus recruiting for full-time jobs and internships.

Ethics:
Maintaining ethical standards is critical to sustaining the high regard employers place on Medill and our students. Unethical behavior will not be tolerated by the administration or Medill Career Services and may result in suspension of MCS privileges, including the ability to participate in on-campus recruiting or the spring Career Fair. Examples of unethical behavior include:
- Reneging on acceptances of employment
- Plagiarizing cover letters or resumes
- Misrepresenting one’s experiences on a resume
