Bryan Smith

Adjunct Lecturer

Bryan Smith is the senior writer at Chicago Magazine. He is also a contributing editor for Men's Health, the world's largest men's magazine. A 1989 graduate of the University of Maryland School of Journalism, he has previously worked as a reporter and feature writer for The Oregonian and as a writing coach and senior feature writer at the Chicago Sun-Times newspaper. 

Awards And Honors

During his career, Smith has won numerous national writing honors, including being named the 2007 Writer of the Year by the National City and Regional Magazine Association, an award for which he has also been a finalist three times. Smith has also won gold medals in reporting, profiles and feature writing from the CRMA, as well as dozens of national and regional feature writing awards during his newspaper career.

His work is featured in the book anthologies Best American Sports Writing and Best American Newspaper Writing and the Chicken Soup for the Soul series.

While Smith has been at Chicago, the magazine has won the national Magazine Award for general excellence and has been a finalist in the same category.
