Knight Chair in Multimedia Journalism

The Medill School at Northwestern University seeks an outstanding professional who has a distinguished reputation in multimedia journalism to fill a new chair at one of the nation’s pre-eminent journalism schools.

We seek a person who has created new knowledge and/or advances in multimedia journalism and digital news. The chair holder will help Medill and the industries the School serves explore new, engaging ways of delivering impactful news, stories, messages and information.

The Knight Professor will also provide leadership on journalism issues and will teach graduate and undergraduate students -- as well as media executives who shape the multimedia future.

The ability to engage with students is a requirement. An advanced degree is a plus, but not required.  This candidate must be tenurable as a full professor, which can be achieved by a record of outstanding professional accomplishments that created measurable, high impact, multimedia advances or by doing significant research in the news.

FACULTY MEMBER – Multimedia Journalism

The Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University seeks an outstanding professional or scholar who can teach sophisticated multimedia journalism to graduate and undergraduate students. The person we seek must be a hands-on multimedia journalist, meaning he or she is proficient with the tools but more importantly is able to use them and teach students how to use them to create effective journalism. More than craft, however, we seek a person with a vision of the future and the ability to do original theoretical or applied research and contribute thought leadership to the academy and the professions. Faculty rank and track (tenure or non-tenure) are open. Both professionals and academics can earn tenure at Medill; criteria for promotion and tenure are available from the School. The successful candidate will have a broad base in all aspects of business reporting and depth in one or two specialty areas. FACULTY MEMBER – Market Research and Consumer Insight

The Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University seeks a tenure-track professional or scholar in the area of Market Research and Consumer Insight for its Integrated Marketing Communications department. Specifically, we are seeking a candidate with the ability to blend quantitative and qualitative research to develop understandings of consumer insight and media consumption.

IMC at Medill now has nine full-time faculty members who research and teach in areas that include: IMC marketing management; customer insight; media economics and technology; branding; database analysis; communities; advertising; direct and e-commerce marketing; and strategic communications. The department offers full-time and part-time master’s degrees in integrated marketing communications, and expects to launch an undergrad program in the fall of 2008. This position represents an expansion of the department to provide broader undergraduate offerings and additional courses for Medill master’s students.

Candidates should have demonstrated evidence of conducting academic research and be able to teach in a demanding but rewarding environment at one of the nation’s premier universities.

The faculty rank is anticipated to be at the Assistant Professor level, though a higher rank is possible if experience warrants.
