Kevin Coval-"Why We Build in a Cipher: Hip-Hop in the Civic Sphere"

Kevin Coval is a poet, author, artistic director, playwright, activist and community builder will speak with students. Kevin is the founder of Louder Than A Bomb: The Chicago Youth Poetry Festival, co-host of WGN Radio podcast The Cornerstone, and author of “A People’s History of Chicago”, foreword by his mentee, Chance the Rapper.

Kevin Blackistone (BSJ81) is inducted into the Medill Hall of Achievement

ESPN contributor and columnist at The Washington Post, Kevin Blackistone will be presented his Hall of Achievement award from Interim Dean Charles Whitaker participate in discussion with Medill Faculty member, J.A. Adande.

"Women in news broadcasting and covering the mid-term elections" with Judy Woodruff and Amanda Vinicky

Judy Woodruff is the anchor and managing editor of the PBS NewsHour. She has covered politics and other news for more than four decades at NBC, CNN and PBS. In 2013, Woodruff was named sole anchor. In 2011, Judy was the anchor and reporter for the PBS documentary "Nancy Reagan: The Role of a Lifetime." 2017 James Foley Medill Medal for Courage in Journalism Award Presentation

Medill welcomes Antoni Slodkowski, Reuters Bureau Chief, Myanmar to accept the 2017 James Foley Medill Medal for Courage on behalf of Reuters journalists Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo. The Burmese journalists were detained by Myanmar officials on December 12, 2017, pending a hearing on whether to bring charges against them under the Official Secrets Act . On September 3, 2018, a Myanmar judge found them guilty of breaching a law on state secrets and jailed them for seven years.
