Ben Huh (BSJ99), the CEO and founder of Cheezburger, a network of more than 50 websites, will speak at Medill on Tuesday, Jan. 24.“The Next 5 Years of Journalism Vs. The Next 25 Years in Journalism: What Will Be Different? What Will Be The Same,” will be held at 3p.m. in Fisk Hall 111 on Northwestern University’s Evanston campus.
The event is free and open to the public.
Huh is the CEO and founder of Cheezburger. He's a former journalist-turned-dot-com entrepreneur who has a knack for nailing the zeitgeist and has been credited with bringing Internet memes to the mainstream and popularizing Internet culture. The success of Cheezburger is attributed to Huh’s knowledge of memes, viral content, and crowd sourcing.
Huh purchased his first website, I Can Has Cheezburger, a blog featuring humorous photos of animals with funny captions, in 2007. Today, Cheezburger is a conglomeration of more than 50 websites that serve more than 20 million visitors a month and received $30 million in venture capital in 2011. His goal for the websites is simple: make the world happy for five minutes a day.
Huh is also working on the Moby Dick Project, an initiative to rethink the way media presents news online.
