Medill will co-host a discussion on the NSA surveillance leaks this Tuesday with Newseum and the American Bar Association (ABA).
Following Edward Snowden’s disclosure of the NSA Prism program, much information and misinformation has been reported in the media. Government secrecy, intrusion into privacy and the era of big data are now hot topics in journalism. This discussion aims to provide an opportunity for media consumers and producers to engage in an understanding of the Prism statutory scheme and the NSA leaks.
Harvey Rishikof, chair of the ABA Standing Committee on Law and National Security Advisory Committee, will moderate the event. Medill Professor Ellen Shearer, co-director of the National Security Journalism Initiative, will be a panelist at the event.
The discussion is planned for Tuesday, June 25, at the Newseum Knight Studio in Washington, D.C. Guests are asked to enter through the group entrance on C Street, no earlier than 3:30 p.m. The event is planned for 4 to 5:30 p.m.
