Staff members win award for redesigned magazine, viewbook

Medill staff members Jessica Parker Gilbert and Marc Zarefsky were honored by The International Academy of Visual Arts on Wednesday, May 1, with 2013 Communicator Awards for their work on the Medill Magazine and Medill graduate journalism viewbook. Gilbert is print/web design manager at Medill and co-editor/art director of the Medill Magazine. Zarefsky is Medill’s communications and social media manager and serves as the co-editor and managing editor of the Medill Magazine.

The Fall 2012 Medill Magazine received an Award of Distinction for Overall Magazine at an Educational Institution, as well as an Award of Distinction for Overall Design. That issue was the first publication since the magazine was revamped and redesigned. Medill’s redesigned graduate journalism viewbook also received an Award of Distinction for Overall Design in the Brochure Specialty Category.

With more than 6,000 entries from across the United States and around the world, “the Communicator Awards is the largest and most competitive awards program honoring the creative excellence for communications professionals,” according to a press release announcing the award winners.

“We are both excited and amazed by the quality of work received for the 19th Annual Communicator Awards,” said Linda Day, executive director of the International Academy of the Visual Arts, in the release. “This year’s class of entries is a true reflection of the progressive and innovative nature of marketing and communications.

“On behalf of the entire Academy I want to applaud this year’s Communicator Awards entrants and winners for their dedication to perfecting their craft as they continue to push the envelope of creativity.”
