Following 27 years at the Chicago Tribune, the last eight as a member of the Trib's editorial board, John McCarron now writes and consults on his favorite subject -- urban affairs, or what makes cities tick. He caught the urban bug as Medill undergraduate, but it was his reporting in the Urban RPA as a grad student, in 1973, that won him an internship at the Trib. Since then his urban coverage has garnered several national awards, including the Heywood Broun Memorial, and local honors, such as the Peter Lisagor Award. John continues to write a monthly op-ed column for the Trib's Commentary page.
