Journalism Residency

The Journalism Residency program puts each undergraduate student into a professional newsroom for 11 weeks as a working journalist. The program includes about 100 newspapers, magazines and television stations across the United States.

Hands-On Learning

The program includes about 100 newspapers, magazines and television stations across the United States and a few abroad. Participation in one of the Journalism Residency sequences -- newspaper/online, magazine or broadcast -- is an academic requirement for the Medill undergraduate degree. Students receive a term's credit for the time spent at their assignments. Students receive a stipend for relocation.

The program operates during all three regular terms at Medill, running with brief between-term breaks from late September through June. The program does not operate during summers.

Not only does this academic residency give students valuable work experience, it also provides them with contacts and work samples for a competitive edge in the job market.

Students receiving financial aid continue to do so while enrolled in the academic internship.
