Jade Buddha Final Presentation

June 27, 2011

The Jade Buddha for Universal Peace, an 8,000-pound statue made of pure jade, made a stop at the Truc Lam Buddhist temple in Chicago from April 23–30. During the course of the week, more than 4,000 people visited the Jade Buddha and participated in festivities put on by Truc Lam, including daily prayers and meals. For the closing ceremony, musicians and a Vietnamese dance group performed, and monks from all over the country led 1,000 attendees in chanting and prayers.

Jamie Arkin, Sam Block, Alex Burness and Gabrielle Peterson produced a five-minute documentary about the event for Lecturer Stephan Garnett's Enterprise Reporting in Diverse Communities class.
