News Graphics and Design Winter 2008 Final Project

Coming Home tells the story of a unique community in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood of Chicago’s South Side.  The St. Leo Residence is a transitional housing development whose residents are all (formerly) homeless military veterans.  The St. Leo Parish has an interesting history, but this story is about homeless veterans rebuilding their lives.  Residents have difficult personal stories, and is a place of hope and renewal.  I did all the reporting for this piece and shot formal portraits of the residents, so I really wanted to capture the dignified and sober (literally) nature of the place. By Peter Holderness.

Magazine Publishing Project 2007 - Ebony Medill

In June 2007, Medill graduate journalism students re-visioned Ebony magazine and its Web site. The students created a new mission for the magazine: to deliver informative, entertaining and inspiring content to African-Americans who see their core values - family, faith and community - reflected in the pages of the magazine. In addition to a full business and publication strategy, students created a magazine prototype, a Web site and even a niche publication called Runway to build off the company's makeup line's Fashion Fair.
