Jesse Greenberg, MSIMC08

IMC student Jesse Greenberg was recently awarded two 2008 Golden Dot awards from the Institute for Policy, Democracy and the Internet (IPDI). Greenberg received the award for online media products he created for political candidate Daniel Bliss and won in two categories: best Web site for state/local campaign and best campaign blog.

"I volunteered for Daniel Biss, candidate for state rep in the 17th district [in Illinois], with idea that it was a place to mix my passion for politics with concepts we were studying in IMC," Greenberg says. "The candidate was very receptive to it.  Specifically, he asked that I work with his Web designer to revamp his website in order to capture the grassroots nature and two-way conversation that is at the heart of the campaign."

The 17th State Representative District is located in the Northern suburbs of Chicago and includes all or parts of the communities of Evanston, Glenview, Golf, Morton Grove, Northbrook, Northfield, Skokie, Wilmette, and Winnetka.

Greenberg adds, "The idea behind the blog was that in order to make it more user-oriented, we were going to let the blog's content be initiated and driven by the electorate.  So, people could ask the candidate questions using a form online at the candidate's Web site and the answers were posted in a blog format for everyone to see."
