Josh Grau

Lecturer and Director of Corporate Outreach

Josh Grau is a technology and media industry veteran. He most recently served as the first chief marketing officer for Wealthfront, a Silicon Valley fintech company that provides fully automated investing, planning and banking solutions. Before joining Wealthfront, he spent six years at Twitter, where he worked in a variety of marketing leadership roles, including two years overseas developing the European, Middle Eastern and African markets.

Prior to Twitter, Grau worked at YouTube, helping launch the first marketing solutions group and spearheading the platform's initial efforts around branded content and influencer marketing. He came to YouTube via ESPN, where he was a direct of integrated marketing.

In addition to his work in marketing, he also had a successful career in Division 1 collegiate athletics as a women’s volleyball coach at the University of Texas and Northwestern University. At Texas, he coached a future Olympian, and at Northwestern, he transformed the program from a 10-year losing record to consecutive trips to the NCAA postseason tournament. He still stays connected to volleyball through his occasional work as an on-air commentator for the Pac-12 Television Networks.

Grau is currently a member of the Board of Advisers for Medill. He also serves as lecturer and director of corporate outreach for Medill at its San Francisco campus, as well as the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He’s previously been an instructor and director in the Northwestern School of Professional Studies, helping to launch the Sports Administration master’s program in 2005.

Education

Grau received a master’s degree in integrated marketing communications from Northwestern, a master’s in sports management from the University of Texas, and a bachelor’s in psychology from the University of Florida.
