Leadership Week

The skillful leadership required of an IMC chief includes marketing that extends beyond the boundary of a department. Effective integrated marketing communications requires talented leadership, not only of the marketing communications function, but also of the organization overall.

As an IMC Online student, you have the opportunity develop the leadership attributes required of an IMC department leader at a five-day course called IMC Leadership. The course takes place on the Northwestern campus in Evanston in June.

IMC Online students meet faculty members during Leadership Week.

Leadership Week covers an entire quarter’s worth of curriculum in five jam-packed days, featuring class lectures, guest speakers, group assignments, leadership workshops and networking opportunities. IMC faculty members Candy Lee and Tom Collinger lead the course.

Guest speakers

You also get to engage with guest speakers. Past speakers include Northwestern President Morton Schapiro, Narrative Science CEO Stuart Frankel, Google’s Vice President of U.S. Sales and Services Jim Lecinski and Leo Burnett’s Chief Talent Officer Renetta McCann.

Experiencing Chicago

You also have a chance to explore Chicago, visit Medill’s Chicago location at 303 E. Wacker Drive and visit companies such as Google and Leo Burnett.

One thing students consistently say they love about Leadership Week is that they have the opportunity to meet each other in person after having met only virtually. In addition to networking with fellow students, you network with professors and industry professionals throughout the week.
