Medill is currently accepting entries for the James Foley Medill Medal for Courage in Journalism. The medal is awarded to the individual or team of journalists working for a U.S. based media outlet who best displays moral, ethical or physical courage in the pursuit of a story or series of stories. Stories must have been published in 2016 to qualify.

The 2015 winners were Glenn Cook, James DeHaven, Eric Hartley, Jennifer Robison, John L. Smith, Howard Stutz and James G. Wright, reporters for the Las Vegas Review-Journal for their coverage of the newspaper’s sale to the family of billionaire casino executive Sheldon Adelson.

Since 2003, the James Foley Medill Medal for Courage in Journalism has been awarded to an individual or team of journalists working for a U.S.-based media outlet who best displayed moral, ethical or physical courage in the pursuit of a story or series of stories. The 2014 winner was Matthieu Aikins, who reported on alleged war crimes by U.S. Army Special Forces in Wardak Province in Afghanistan. His work was published in Rolling Stone magazine.
