Sarah Kaufman

Sarah Kaufman (MSJ87) reported for The Buffalo News and Daily Herald in the 1980s and completed a master’s degree at Medill in 1987. Several years after her graduation, Kaufman traveled to Munich, Germany, where she worked as a translator and wrote for publications targeted toward English readers.

Kaufman worked as a freelancer for The Washington Post before joining the newspaper’s staff as dance critic in 1996. It was in this position that she won the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for criticism, writing about and providing insight into the world of dance.
