We believe that gaining hands-on, real-world experience in marketing communications is a valuable way to put what you’re learning in the classroom into context. Furthermore, it allows you to have experiences you can draw on in future job interviews and in your career.

We also believe in the power of learning about IMC in new contexts and have programs that allow you to travel and study IMC in other places. These programs give you a view of IMC through the lens of new cultures, helping you to better understand consumers and different marketplaces.

Immersion Quarter

During your fourth quarter in the program, you work with a team of IMC students at top company during Immersion Quarter. With this team, you tackle a company’s current challenges and provide solutions that make a lasting difference. This allows you to gain hands-on experience and apply what you learn in the classroom to real-world marketing communications challenges.

Domestic and Global Experiences

San Francisco

Spend a quarter at Northwestern's San Francisco campus experiencing the convergence of marketing communications with technology and examining the key roles data and analytics play in brand communications in the Bay Area.

The Medill IMC International Enterprise Innovation course takes place for five days in Chile. Students learn how large, legacy organizations innovate around the world in today's marketing communications landscape.

Summer programs for international students

Medill IMC hosts a series of programs in the summer months for high school and undergraduate students from around the world. These non-credit programs allow students to engage with expert IMC faculty and learn key skills in integrated marketing communications. Classes typically include Marketing Management and Consumer Insight.

Research with Faculty

As a student in the IMC program, you can work with faculty on research projects through the Medill IMC Spiegel Research Center. The center conducts evidence-based, data driven analysis to prove the relationship between customer engagement and purchase behavior. You can apply to become a research fellow or be on the center’s marketing impact team.
