Statement from Medill Dean Charles Whitaker Medill research on trust in media

Purple Northwestern Medill quote graphic: Dean Charles Whitaker discusses two studies on trust in news, hopeful polls, and journalism’s role; portrait at right.

“Medill, in partnership with the Alliance for Trust in Media, is sharing two recent studies on the critical issue of trust in news. We hope these polls will lead to a frank, national discussion about both the challenges and opportunities to strengthen trust in media. As the leading journalism school, we are committed to participating in ongoing research on this vital topic. A free and robust press is essential to our democracy. But for it to make a difference, we must restore trust in the work of journalists. We look forward to using the insights from this research to guide Medill’s faculty, staff and students.”
