A. Douglas Lyke

A. Douglas Lyke (BSJ52, MSJ53) is a member of the Medill Hall of Achievement.

Lyke was the owner, president and chairman of Ripon Community Printers beginning in 1975. From 1962 to 1993 he owned and served as publisher of Ripon Commonwealth Press where he worked as a columnist and editorial writer.

Before entering publishing and newspapers, Lyke worked as an associate of The Beveridge Organization, a public relations counsel, and as president of Financial Advertising, Inc.

A native of Wisconsin, Lyke was a member of the Ripon City Council and served as chairman of the finance and government affairs committee. He was as president of Ripon Hospital Associates and was a member and past president of the board of education for the Ripon school district.

The Wisconsin Newspaper Association selected Lyke as Publisher of the Year in 1992. He was named Best Newspaper Columnist among community newspapers in Wisconsin in 1971 and 1992. Lyke and his wife, Audrey, received a Founder's Day award from Ripon College in 1994 because of their involvement in college activities. The Ripon Chamber of Commerce also honored Lyke and his wife with the Distinguished Service Award for efforts within the city.

Lyke died in 2002.
