Richard N. Ostling
Richard N. Ostling (MSJ63) was a member of the inaugural class of the Medill Hall of Achievement in 1997.
Richard N. Ostling was a religion writer for the Associated Press and was formerly senior correspondent for Time magazine, where he also covered the religion beat. While reporting for Time, he traveled to Africa, Israel, Vatican City, other parts of Europe, and locales across North America to interview important religious newsmakers and ordinary believers. He has also broadcast "Report on Religion," which was syndicated nationwide twice a week by CBS Radio and did regular religion reports for public television's The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer.
Ostling is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Michigan, where he was a senior editor of The Michigan Daily. He earned an M.A. in religion from The George Washington University and also holds an honorary Litt. D. from Gordon College. Before coming to Time, he worked for the Morning News and Evening Journal, in Wilmington, Del., and as news editor of Christianity Today, a Protestant magazine.
