Richard Threlkeld
Richard Threlkeld (MSJ61) was a member of the inaugural class of the Medill Hall of Achievement in 1997.
Threlkeld was a writer, reporter, anchor and bureau chief for CBS News for more than 25 years, covering many of the most dramatic events of the century.
He was a regular contributor to many CBS broadcasts including the "CBS Evening News with Dan Rather" and "Sunday Morning."
An experienced combat reporter, Threlkeld covered the Persian Gulf War and the Vietnam War, as well as the U.S. invasions of Panama and Grenada.
As co-anchor of CBS Morning News and as a CBS news correspondent, Threlkeld covered major domestic stories including the Patty Hearst kidnapping case, the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy and major political campaigns. As an overseas correspondent, he covered the Middle East peace process, the 1990 Soviet revolution and the student demonstrations in Tiananmen Square.
Threlkeld died in 2012.
