William F. Thomas

William F. Thomas (BSJ50, MSJ51) was a member of the inaugural class of the Medill Hall of Achievement in 1997.

Thomas was the former editor and executive vice president of the Los Angeles Times.

While at the paper Thomas also served as executive editor, metropolitan editor, and assistant metropolitan editor. Prior to that, he worked for Mirror-News from 1956 to 1962. Thomas started as a copy reader and climbed the ranks to city editor. He began his newspaper career at the Buffalo Evening News as a copy editor before becoming assistant chief copy editor. Thomas then spent a year at the Sierra Madre News as editor.

Thomas died in 2014.
