Robert Samuels

Robert Samuels (BSJ06) won the 2023 Pulitzer Prize in General Nonfiction with his colleague Toluse Olorunnipa for their book “His Name is George Floyd.” Through their reporting and writing, Samuels and Olorunnipa reveal how systemic racism shaped George Floyd’s life and legacy and how his death sparked an international movement for social change. 
 
Samuels was a national political reporter at The Washington Post for 11 years, where he focused on politics, policy and the changing American identity. During his time at The Post, Samuels was on a team of reporters who won the 2020 George Polk Award in Justice Reporting for their coverage of George Floyd’s life and death. Before joining The Post, Samuels spent nearly five years at the Miami Herald covering politics, poverty and muder. At Northwestern, Samuels was the editor in chief of The Daily Northwestern. He is now a staff writer for The New Yorker.
