
Renita Young
Adjunct Lecturer
Renita Young is an accomplished journalist, speaker, and entrepreneur with nearly two decades of experience at the intersection of business, media and education. As an adjunct lecturer at Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications, she brings her expertise in multimedia storytelling and business journalism to the next generation of industry leaders.
A proud Chicago native, Young is the Founder and Chief Vocal Architect of The Vocale Group, a consultancy dedicated to “giving voice to your vision” through professional voiceovers, public speaking, media contributions, and expert media training. She is also an award-winning broadcast financial journalist who has covered market-moving stories for three of the world’s leading financial news networks: Bloomberg TV/Radio, Reuters TV and Schwab Network.
Most recently, Young served as Host and Senior Markets Correspondent at Schwab Network in Chicago, where she led The Wrap, a daily segment summarizing market activity, alongside delivering live financial updates throughout the day. Her career highlights include launching two innovative shows at Bloomberg focused on personal finance (#YourMoneyStory) and the intersection of culture and commerce impacting Black audiences (The Bloomberg Black Business Beat). Her 2021 radio feature on the social media influencer pay gap earned her both the Clarion Award for Radio Feature from the Association for Women in Communications and First Place in Radio Enterprise Reporting from the Journalists Association of New York. There, she also anchored Bloomberg Radio’s Crypto report and voiced TV commercials, radio specials and live events. At Reuters, Young launched #GoldWatch, the company’s first social media show focused on trends in the gold market.
Young’s dynamic career spans Baton Rouge, Washington, D.C., Nairobi, and London, where she covered the 2012 Olympic Games for Jet Magazine and contributed to BBC TV and Radio. She has also reported for the Pulitzer Prize-winning NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune.
Beyond the newsroom, Young is a Les Brown-certified speaker who has facilitated workshops and moderated panels for organizations such as Zillow Group, the Federal Reserve of Atlanta, FinCon, the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), and the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation.
Young earned her Bachelor of Arts in Communication (TV, Radio, and Film) with a minor in English-Professional Writing from DePaul University’s Honors Program. She holds a Master of Science in Journalism with a specialization in business from Northwestern University's Medill School.
In her free time, Young is a dedicated Chicago lakefront runner, an active member of NABJ–Chicago Chapter, where she previously served as president and secretary, and a leader in her church, committed to fostering community beyond its walls. She cherishes time with her family, friends and the city she calls home.
