Magazine Editing

Want to work in magazines? Whether your goal is to be a writer, editor or publisher, in print or online, Magazine Editing explains and prepares you for the magazine business.

Students will learn and practice techniques for editing and producing magazine-styled material in print, digital and mobile formats. The core concepts taught include how to find story ideas; how to work with a writer to develop a story from idea to execution; varieties of narrative structure; and editing basics, from organizing a narrative to improving sentences.

The course will also offer insights into the magazine business generally and prepare students for a wide range of roles in magazines or in other media that today follow the magazine template.
