In this class, students will learn about how to deliver military reporting from the inside out. The class will examine the lives of people in uniform and their role in American society and U.S. national defense. Students will also study the structure and culture of the U.S. armed forces, the evolution of war correspondence, Pentagon reporting, ethics and military technology. The course combines historical case studies, practical reporting, class discussions, readings and guest lectures. Students are expected to put forth a sustained, full-time effort to excel. They will learn best practices on how to cover military personnel and installations while also developing a deeper understanding of the military culture and role in the United States.
