Media Management & Leadership: New York City Immersion
A front-row seat to the future of media.
The Media Management & Leadership (MML) specialization is designed for students who want to help transform the media industry. For 2027, Medill is launching an exciting new immersion experience that puts students inside the beating heart of the media industry – New York City. This one-week, high-intensity experience brings the specialization's mission into sharp focus by connecting classroom learning directly to the people, organizations, and decisions reshaping the media industry.
Why New York City?
New York City is the epicenter of the global media industry, and today it also represents the frontline for change in the sector. Today, New York is where legacy institutions are reinventing themselves; venture-backed media startups are scaling; and it is also where platforms, publishers, and creators are collaborating to create the future of media. From evolving business models to new audience behaviors to the impact of AI and platforms, you will see how theory meets reality, and witness how organizations are adapting under pressure, and more importantly, what leadership looks like in this dynamic environment.
What You Can Expect
Direct access to the industry.
You will engage with senior leaders, media operators, and alumni across journalism, media technology, audience , product, revenue, and strategy. Programming includes site visits to media organizations, panels, workshops, and networking events. The result is an unfiltered look at how media organizations work.
Career preparation that goes beyond LinkedIn.
This is not a passive tour. The immersion is built to help you sharpen your career focus and job readiness. You will gain insight into emerging roles, in-demand skill sets, hiring signals, and career paths that don’t always show up in job descriptions. Our goal is to help you leave the immersion better prepared to position yourself and compete in today's competitive job market.
A real network, not a rolodex.
Through curated interactions with Medill alumni and industry partners, you will begin building relationships that extend beyond the week itself. These are conversations designed to open doors, surface opportunities, and provide long-term professional signals that matter.
