- What is Medill looking for in applicants for the Medill Investigative Labs?
Are you passionate about investigation and finding the truth? Are you willing to research and dig deeply to find answers, even when it seems impossible? If so, then the Medill Investigative Labs are for you.
No matter if your undergraduate degree was in a related subject or something different, if you are committed to pursuing investigative journalism, our seasoned faculty will work alongside you.
For students interested in being a part of the Medill Investigative Lab D.C., having some journalism experience is helpful, though this experience does not need to be in investigations. Students who wish to participate in the Chicago Lab will build experience as they go.- What’s the difference between the Medill Investigative Labs in D.C. and Chicago?

- Both Labs teach the critical skills needed to become an investigative reporter.
- Both Labs offer the chance to have your work published in professional outlets. These clips will help you launch your career.
- For both Labs, students spend fall and winter quarters in Chicago.
- Students in the D.C. Lab will move to Washington, D.C. for the spring and summer quarters.
- Students in the D.C. Lab need to bring some journalism experience--through internships or professional jobs--to the program.
