Whitaker shares statement on release of Reuters journalists Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo

“We are elated Reuters reporters Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo are now free. Our school’s namesake, Joseph Medill, said, ‘Write boldly and tell the truth fearlessly,’ and that is certainly what these journalists did. We awarded them the James Foley Medill Medal for Courage in Journalism last fall for their outstanding bravery in their reporting. They demonstrated that courage again during their incarceration. We are grateful for their dedication to shining light on truth to the world even at enormous personal cost.”
