Double Major Opportunities

Pursue your passions in both journalism and another of your interests by following double major, minor and certificate tracks. You'll have the support and guidance of Medill's faculty and staff at every step of the process.

Your goals, our support

About 95 percent of undergraduates complete a second major, a minor or a certificate program while studying at Medill. Whether you have an existing interest in another subject or discover a new field that excites you, we will nurture and encourage this path to your academic success.

As you explore additional educational opportunities, Medill's staff will help you map out your academic goals and ensure you still have the chance to participate in the off-campus or experiential programs, like Journalism Residency, that make Medill’s journalism program unlike any other.

Expand your knowledge base

Some of the most popular second majors deal with political science and international relations, which help you understand policy, politics, the government and the greater world. Other second majors include social sciences, ethnic studies and foreign languages, which allow you to broaden the scope of your journalism work.

Whenever I need help with classes, journalism advice or even tips on what I should be doing for my additional biology major and global health minor, Medill advisers have been able to either give me more than enough information or lead me on my way to finding it.
