Chicago Newsroom

Our Chicago Newsroom provides a home base for you to learn to work in today’s always-on news cycle. The new, state-of-the-art space is in the heart of the city’s downtown business district known as the Loop.

Hone your skills in our technology-enabled classrooms, collaboration spaces and broadcast studio. You never forget you are in Chicago, because the newsroom offers sweeping views of Lake Michigan, Navy Pier and the Chicago River.

Students work on news stories in a vibrant newsroom.

Create multimedia content that you can pitch to news outlets or publish on Medill Reports, Medill's own news publishing service.

The focus is on beat reporting in the nation’s third largest city, covering topics such as:

  • Business
  • Arts and culture
  • Health, environment and science
  • Public affairs
  • Social justice
  • Sports

Chicago is a vibrant, competitive media market. Working closely with a faculty member as editor, you’ll find, cultivate and interview sources on your beat in addition to covering breaking and enterprise stories. Through your reporting, you have the opportunity to explore Chicago’s diverse neighborhoods and the city’s businesses, cultural institutions, government agencies, nonprofits and sports teams.
