New York Magazine Mentors Experience

Medill’s New York Magazine Mentors Experience connects you to the heart of the Big Apple and the pulse of the industry.

Available to students in the Magazine specialization, this exclusive opportunity provides students with mentors in the industry by the end of the first quarter of the program. Students work with their mentors for the remaining nine months on job readiness and industry understanding.

Our faculty also use their own extensive magazine connections to bring professionals into the classroom.

In some cases, students will take Medill-sponsored trips to New York for additional facetime with mentors, workshops and panels on the ever-changing industry and exposure to magazine and magazine-adjacent job opportunities.

Medill has a rich and deep community of alums in the magazine industry. We make sure our students connect to that community early in their education and learn from them through all the stages of our curriculum—learning to report, edit, innovate and figure out career paths as well as land internships, fellowships and jobs. The New York Magazine Mentors Experience ensures our students are connected to meaningful guidance and access long after school and throughout their careers.
