Medill and Better Government Association Internship
Medill, working with the Better Government Association and the Illinois Answers Project, offers two internships in the winter quarter to MSJ students. Internships can be extended into spring quarter.
Students partner with the Illinois Answers Project of Chicago to pursue an investigative reporting story or weekly reporting assignments. Students receive a stipend, and can collect bylines for their stories which are often published in major media outlets. The internship gives students the opportunity to develop investigative reporting skills.
Examples of stories published through the partnership:
- BGA and the Chicago Tribune investigation into dozens of fire deaths due to building code violations, a story that won a Pulitzer Prize
- Chicago Sun-Times story on deep drops in environmental enforcement after the Department of Environment was eliminated
